Russia’s pro-Putin biker gang to recreate WW2 in epic Crimean stunt show

Night Wolves biker gang have become part of a new patriotic drive in Russia and have been given land in annexed Crimea to put on their spectacle

Breathtaking motorbike stunts, laser effects, rock music and pyrotechnics: the story of the second world war has never looked so sexy. Russia’s Night Wolves biker gang will put on an enormous show in annexed Crimea on Friday night, which is expected to provide a dramatic and highly visual recreation of the war as a bike show.

The Night Wolves have become a highly visible part of a new patriotic drive in Russia, led by their leader, Alexander Zaldostanov, better known as the Surgeon. They have been given a huge piece of land outside Sevastopol in Crimea, where they are due to build a vast centre devoted to extreme sports and patriotic education. Reports this week suggest they have also been gifted a large plot of land in Moscow.

Tunisian policeman shot dead near beach resort of Sousse

Two people on a motorbike open fire on group of police officers near the coastal resort where a jihadi gunman killed 38 tourists in June

A policeman has been shot dead by two attackers on a motorbike on the outskirts of Sousse, the Tunisian coastal city where a jihadi gunman killed 38 tourists in June. Three officers were targeted in the shooting, one of whom was hit and later died, according to the Tunisian interior ministry.

The officers are believed to have been shot at with a rifle while they were waiting for transportation to the nearby town of Kairouan from the low-income neighbourhood of Hay Zohour.

Islamic State militants hung body of Khaled Assad, 82, in a main square of Palmyra, national antiquities chief says

Islamic State militants beheaded an antiquities scholar in the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra and hung his body on a column in a main square of the historic site, Syria’s antiquities chief said on Tuesday.

Isis, whose insurgents control swathes of Syria and Iraq, captured Palmyra in central Syria from government forces in May, but is not known to have damaged its monumental Roman-era ruins despite a reputation for destroying artefacts militants view as idolatrous under their puritanical interpretation of Islam.
